The PTA Council of Howard County (PTACHC) serves our 75 PTA’s and its members in Howard County, MD, to support the mission, purposes, and principles of PTA through advocacy, leadership development, parent involvement and education.

Speaker: Bill Barnes, new HCPSS superintendent

Blueprint (the Maryland law requiring county school districts to offer certain programs) - funding, community education;
Transportation
HR - speed up the hiring process
Budget - look for new revenue streams.

Capital budget plan: there is a committee trying to establish criteria which will rank the capital projects in terms of when they’ll be done relative to one another. Rather than in the past when projects would fall down the list to further & further out years, Mr. Barnes would like to see the list stay consistent year-to-year.

Speaker: Ben Schmitt, the union president, reminded that the union contract will be renegotiated with regard to salary for next school year.
